My first impression of blogging was that it would be just
another social networking website to waste hours on. Though I use Facebook, I
have not signed up for other social networking sites such as Twitter, Instagam,
StumbleUpon, Pinterest and Flikr. But now I am a member of Blogger and I plan
to take advantage of this opportunity to expand my social networking usage. I
have never read nor followed any blogs so having a blog is a brand new
experience.
It took me a long time to choose my blog address. This is
partially because I am very indecisive and partially because I may use this
blog after WRIT 1122. I like having the ability to change the design of my
blog. [THROWBACK] I remember when I had a MySpace and the music and background
choices were essential.
I find it strange yet awesome that my blog already has 19
views considering it has only been of existence for 12 hours (and it has no
posts). Astoundingly, views are being picked up from Alaska and even Germany! While
absorbing the fact that anything I post can be seen and read by anyone, it opened
my eyes to the power of blogging and gave me a better understanding of the
process and ultimately why people write blogs. I have the power to say things
that may help or inspire others.
I believe that blogging is a happy medium between writing
and Facebook-ing. Writing is usually thought of as polished while Facebook is
the opposite. Facebook is usually first person reactions, ideas, and thoughts
written in any way grammatically correct or incorrect. Writing is usually a
formatted and structured type of expression not always using the first person
and is typically grammatically correct. Blogging gives a person the ability to
write without boundaries, at any length, and usually grammatically correct but
there are no rules to say it must be.
To say the least, I am excited to start blogging and I feel
it will help my writing skills and social networking simultaneously.
I like how your tone throughout this post was really positive! :) It's great that you plan to make the most of our time on Blogger to understand this part of the social media world better. I thought it was interesting how you referred to blogging as a "happy medium between writing and Facebook-ing." I look forward to reading more of your posts!
